Surfboard fins play a significant role in shaping the performance of a surfer and their board when they
unite on a wave. While the design of a surfboard holds its own allure, it is the fins that truly breathe
life into a board. With the aim of unraveling the secrets behind fin templates, we reached out to some of
the world's best surfers. In this episode, we catch up with one of the most exciting surfers to ride a
surfboard, Kolohe Andino. Kolohe lets us into his garage and gives us his take on fins, what he chooses to
ride around home, and the safety advantages of the FCSII.
"Veni, Vidi, Vici"
I’m a mad creature of habit. I surf the same spot every day, I frequent the same restaurants
around town (hard not to go to Ai Pono every chance I get), and I basically ride the same surfboard every
day until it’s dead in the water — which is actually strange because I love getting new surfboards, it’s my
vice. But as much as I love getting new boards I actually dread those first few sessions trying to get used
to the feel of something new. It’s quite strange, and for that reason I’ve got three brand new boards in the
rack in my garage that have been begging for attention.
